History

Since ancient times, the state has been home to the Cherokee, Pamlico, Roanoke, Katoba, and Tuscarora Indian tribes. In the second half of the 16th century the English courtier Sir Walter Raleigh (Raleigh) received from Queen Elizabeth I the rights to establish a colony in North America. Thus two English colonies appeared on the territory of modern North Carolina. But they did not last long. New settlements settled here at the end of the seventeenth century, forming the province of Carolina. It was named in honor of King Charles I of England and Scotland.
In the first half of the 18th century, the province of North Carolina was formed as a royal colony. Later it joined the states which demanded independence from Great Britain.

By the beginning of the American Civil War North Carolina was a slave state. During the war it sided with the South (Confederacy), whose army was defeated.

The state experienced its heyday in the twentieth century. Here the textile and chemical industries, science and new technologies, cultivation and production of tobacco were actively developed.

North Carolina is famous for its beautiful beaches, mountain scenery, and developed infrastructure.
